Kabinoff and Shugar Join The Federation Board of Directors

The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to its 2023 Board of Directors:

Deb Kabinoff is a successful entrepreneur and longtime resident of Sarasota. She is currently the CEO of GulfStar Homes, a real estate development, construction and management company building affordable housing in North Port, Florida. Deb has been an active member of our Federation’s campus construction committee; she is responsible for introducing the Federation to its catering partner for the Morganroth Event Center, Constellation Catering Group. She currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation and serves on the Advisory Committee of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.

Dan Shugar is a new member of our Sarasota-Manatee Jewish community, having recently relocated from Los Angeles, where he served on the Board of Jewish Family Services. For 25 years, Shugar has served as the owner/operator of Shugar Soapworks, specializing in providing high-quality, natural, affordable soap products for retailers throughout the US. Dan serves on our Federation’s Mort Skirboll Jewish Film Festival committee and the Sarasota Film Festival committee. He is passionate about using his skills to help local and state agencies seeking donations for communities at risk.

Board President Bruce Udell says, “We are grateful to Michelle Mitchell, whose board term ended in 2022, for her valuable contributions. Thankfully, she will remain involved in the Federation through her work with our development team on our fundraising initiatives.

We are so fortunate to welcome new board members of the caliber of Dan Shugar and Deb Kabinoff.  Both are incredibly successful entrepreneurs, and each brings both the business savvy and non-profit experience crucial to successful boards.   I’m really looking forward to their insights and efforts as we continue to evolve as an organization.”
